Q-redity: Collaborative Learning Tool

Description of the Edtech

Q-redity is a collaborative learning tool that uses game-based activities reinforced with game cards designed specifically for Grade 7 learners in order to increase their engagement and motivation in learning Heredity: Sexual and Asexual reproduction. This tool promotes collaboration between students that will lead to increase knowledge retention and academic performance.

Game Mechanics

The class will be grouped into four (4)

Each group will have a (n) members and will collaboratively work for each daily task and recitation.

Every start of the discussion, each group will randomly choose four (4) blue cards (organisms) — representing their chances to participate in the recitation.

LEGEND:

BACTERIA < PLANTS & ANIMALS

FUNGI < ANIMALS & BACTERIA

PROTISTS < PLANTS & FUNGI

PLANTS < PROTISTS  & BACTERIA

ANIMALS < FUNGI & PROTISTS

To determine who will answer in the recitation, the winning card of the team will have the privilege to answer. If the answer is correct, the card will be surrendered to the teacher. If the answer was wrong, the other groups will fight for the privilege to answer.

If the answer of the group is correct, a random advantage card will be granted to the group. These advantage cards will be collected in a span of 4-days. These can be then used on the final day where the main quest will be performed.

On the final day, the highest number of advantage cards will have the privilege to first choose one of the primary cards. The type of reproduction in the chosen card will determine the group’s quest — to identify the four (4) organisms with the corresponding type of reproduction (binary fission, budding, sporogenesis, fragmentation, vegetative propagation, and meiosis).

If two or more groups have the same number of advantage cards accumulated, they will be given each one (1) organism card to determine who will have the chance to first choose the primary cards.

If each groups have their primary cards, they will start to collect organism cards.

Final Quest: Don’t Leaves behind

Direction:

1.) Each group will be playing a game of the Don’t Leave Behind activity to battle for supremacy in obtaining the organism cards.

2.) All groups will battle to guess and try to figure out the unknown word or phrase by thinking of the letters; if the

letter is not in the mysterious word, a petal will fall from the group’s flower, and other groups will have the chance to guess another letter that makes up the word or a phrase.

If the group guessed the correct letter, they will have the chance to guess another letter. A group can directly guess the word or the phrase to win the round, but if they guess the word or phrase wrong, they will be banned from answering that round, and the other group will have the chance to steal and answer to obtain organism cards.

3.) The first group to guess a word or phrase correctly will have the privilege to choose 4 organism cards that will correspond to their primary card (type of reproduction).

4.) If the information in the QR Code matches their primary card, they win the game. But if the QR Code cannot be scanned, meaning their organism cards are not correct, they will participate again the Don’t Leaves Behind to have another chance to choose 4 organism cards until matching the information in the QR Code to their primary card.

*Note: if they choose another 4 organism

Cards and QR Code was error, they can retain the card that they think suits their primary card. Maximum of only 4 cards are allowed to be collected by the group at a time to form and scan the QR Code. Other cards that they think do not suit their primary card must be returned to the card bank to be chosen by other groups.

5.) Action cards they have accumulated from the week-long discussion can be used to their advantage or to the

disadvantage of other groups – the goal is to be the first group to collect the 4 organisms that corresponds to their primary card and to scan the QR Code that will give information about their primary card.
